Natural disasters occur on a regular basis in the United States. The sad truth is that storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and droughts occur very often in nearly every state in this country, and, as a result, the prices of insurance for homeowners are consequently more expensive. Homeowners insurance is some of the most important and most used insurance throughout the United States in areas such as the state of Arizona. In Arizona, the statistically most common natural disaster to occur is a hurricane. Since the 1920’s, there have been over 25 recorded hurricanes in Arizona, and statistics claim that many more will occur there. Fortunately, for most of Arizona, hurricane insurance attached to home owner’s insurance has not been needed much because the main land area has far less if any damage inflicted upon it as a result of hurricanes. However, in the areas closer to the coast, hurricane insurance is often not only something to protect against the havoc that these severe storms cause, but are also necessary in many areas to even qualify for a home loan or to even purchase a home.
Homeowners insurance in its raw form does not include coverage over many natural disasters, including hurricanes. In the cases of many home owners’ insurance policies, natural disaster insurance has to be quoted either separately or must be factored in at the beginning of the quote in order to make it accurate. After the quote is given and the policy is purchased, most financial institutions such as banks and loan agencies and companies will ask for a proof of insurance either from the potential home owner that is applying for the loan or the insurance company directly to ensure that the natural disaster insurance that is needed is properly purchased before the loan is given and received.
In certain areas of Arizona, like all states, natural disaster rates, such as hurricane rates, will be higher simply because of past hurricane paths as well as where these hurricanes are more likely to hit. In areas such as Yuma, insurance for hurricanes is more expensive because it is on the path of where hurricanes have hit in the past and where they are likely to hit in the future. Also, the area of Ajo, because it is so close to the coastline, also has a higher rating for hurricane insurance based on geography. Nogales is another area in which hurricane insurance is more expensive because that area has been hit in the past.
